Bye bye heartburn!

Well I have been eating clean for over a month now and one huge benefit is that I no longer have horrible heartburn. Earlier this year I was taking 2 Prilosec, some ranitidine and slugging down super strength Mylanta and still not getting relief. I am now taking only one Prilosec in the morning and am thinking I might be able to get rid of that one. I had no idea this would be one of the benefits of eating clean! I am beyond excited!

Ok, now if you followed the rules in part one (What should I eat? (eat food)) you will have been eating real, whole food most of the time. Traditional diets around the world have huge diversities, it's possible to nourish ourselves from an astonishing range of foods as long as they are whole, real food. They have been, and can be, healthy high-fat, healthy low-fat diets but they have always been built around whole foods. But some whole foods are better for us than others, and some ways of producing them and combining them in meals can make a difference. So the rules in part two ( What kind of food should I eat) which is mostly plants, propose a handful of personal policies regarding what to eat, above and beyond "food".

RULE 22: Eat mostly plants, especially leaves.
Many studies demonstrate that a diet rich in vegetables and fruits reduce the risk of dying from all the Western diseases. In countries where people eat a pound or more of vegetables and fruits a day the rate of cancer is half what it is in the US! HALF! That is astonishing to me! You'll also eat less calories since plant foods are usually less "energy dense" than other things you eat, consuming less calories protects against many chronic diseases. Vegetarians are notably healthier and they live longer....so pretend you are a rabbit!

I hope someone else out there in bloggyland thinks these rules are helpful.

Have a super Sunday!
CIAO!
